The International Conference on Conflict Resolution, organized by the Public Policy Institute (PPI) in collaboration with the International Foundation for Sustainable Peace and Development (IFSPD), was held on 1 November 2018 in Sofia (Bulgaria).
The Public Policy Institute was established in 2012 as a project of its founder Prof. Zdravko Popov, Ph.D., a member of the Board of Directors of the International Foundation (IFSPD). The Institute has the status of a private, non-governmental organization operating within the framework of the legal form of the foundation.
The conference was attended by high-ranking and distinguished representatives of the intelligentsia, diplomacy, scholars and intellectuals. On behalf of the International Foundation (IFSPD) Amb. Dimitar Kostov, Ph.D. President of IFSPD, made a report on “Peacekeeping Operations as a UN Practice”. Secretary General and Vice-President of IFSPD, Prof. Eldar Hasanov, Ph.D. delivered a speech on “Ensuring the rule of international law and justice in conflict resolution”, and Assoc. Prof. Dr & Dr. Honoris Causa Sabahudin Hadzialic, International University of Travnik (Bosnia and Herzegovina), made a report on the topic “Media literacy vs. Political manipulation as the Conflict Resolution “conditio sine qua non””. IFSPD member, Prof. Ljubica Vasic, Ph.D., Megatrend University (Serbia) delivered a speech on “The difficult transition to democracy – a case study (Republic of Serbia).”
Also, Ambassador Lyubomir Todorov, Ph.D. made a report on “The Role of the UN Security Council in International Conflict Resolution”, Mrs. Barbara Gallo, Ph.D. expert of the Instituto di Ricerche Internazionali Archivio Disarmo, Rome (Italy), made a presentation “Global Conflict and International Arms Trade” , Ambassador Valentin Radomirski, Institute of Economics and International Relations, delivered a speech on “The conflictology and the dimensions of the Balkan-Black Sea conflict”, Ambassador Dr. Lyubomir Kyuchukov, Director of the Institute of Economics and International Relations presented his report “De-escalation of confrontation – is there an alternative?” and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lyubov Mincheva, Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridskii delivered a speech on “Inter-agency cooperation in conflict resolution: challenges and achievements”.
During the discussion of the reports, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Bulgaria, Prof. Nargiz Gurbanova, Ph.D. made her speech as well.
Following the presentations, extensive discussions were held on the topics discussed at the conference.
