Presentation of the book “Uses and Abuses in International Law: Sovereignty, Self-Determination and Separatism” 3 – 4 March 2020 Bucharest, Romania

Upon the initiative of the International Foundation for Sustainable Peace and Development (IFSPD), a research project on abuse of the principle of self-determination and the reaction of the international community was implemented. This initiative was launched by the International Foundation (IFSPD) in 2018, and research was conducted by senior researchers and experts from the Center for Conflict Prevention and Early Warning (CPCEW) under the management of IFSPD Vice-president, Prof. Iulian Chifu.

On 3 March 2020, in Bucharest (Romania), in the Gafencu Hall within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, a presentation of the book “Uses and Abuses in International Law: Sovereignty, Self-Determination and Separatism” was presented as a result of the research mentioned above. The event was attended by ambassadors and representatives of the diplomatic corps of countries such as Egypt, Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, Portugal, France, as well as intellectuals and prominent scientific researchers. IFSPD Executive Director, Ms. Esma Sirbubalo, participated on behalf of the International Foundation (IFSPD), emphasizing the IFSPD’s confidence in the successful future collaboration in the field of scientific research with the Center for Conflict Prevention and Early Warning (CPCEW).

The attendees supported the need to discuss and conduct research on such an essential but delicate topic. Prof. Chifu noted in the book that the project was implemented, taking into account the principles of the International Foundation (IFSPD) and the Conflict Prevention Center (CPCEW), as well as IFSPD’s request to implement scientific research honestly and openly, using a balanced approach to the bottom issue. One of the main principles of IFSPD, as a think tank, is related to respecting the freedom of scientific research, the openness of authors and their approach to truth, as well as fact-based argumentation.
