THE DECLARATION

On the 24th of May, in the Parliament of Ukraine, the legislative proposal “On State Language Policy” was considered. The legislative proposal, developed by the deputies, envisages besides the state Ukrainian language, the use of minority languages.

Consideration of the document caused controversy and open confrontation in the Parliament. According to the opposition, the adoption of the legislative draft would not lead to the preservation of minority languages but to the total use of the Russian language throughout the country, which ultimately will have a negative Impact on the development of the Ukrainian language.

The voting on the legislative draft about the status of regional languages ended in a mass brawl in which some members of the Ukrainian Parliament were injured with varying degrees of severity.

The author of the above mentioned document is a deputy of the Verkhovnaya Rada of Ukraine and the Vice-President of the International Fund for Cooperation and Partnership of the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea (BSCSIF) representing Ukraine, Mr Vadim Kolesnichenko.

The International Fund for Cooperation and Partnership of the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea not willing to interfere the internal affairs of Ukraine, strongly condemns any manifestation of violence and calls to solve this confrontation that led to a serious inсindent through dialogue in a spirit of tolerance which is one of the most important factors of stability.
